Installing PHP on Windows Using XAMPP
Developing a website with PHP on Windows requires tools that make the installation and usage of PHP easy and convenient. One of the most popular tools used by developers is XAMPP. In this article, we will guide you through the steps to install XAMPP on a Windows operating system.
Step 1: Download XAMPP
- Open a web browser and go to the Apache Friends website.
- Click the "Download" button under the Windows logo.
- Choose the latest version of XAMPP you want to download and click "Download."
Step 2: Install XAMPP
- Once the installer file is downloaded, double-click the file to install XAMPP.
- Click "Yes" when prompted to allow the program to make changes to the system.
- In the XAMPP Setup Wizard, click "Next" to start the installation.
- Select the components you want to install. Generally, select all components and click "Next."
- Choose the folder where you want to install XAMPP (the default is C:\xampp) and click "Next."
- Click "Next" in the additional information window and click "Next" again to begin the installation.
- Wait for the installation to complete, then click "Finish" to open the XAMPP Control Panel.
Step 3: Configure and Start Using XAMPP
- When the XAMPP Control Panel opens, click the "Start" button next to Apache and MySQL to start the servers.
- If everything is set up correctly, the status lights will turn green.
- Open a web browser and type "http://localhost/" in the address bar to test XAMPP.
Step 4: Configure PHP
- Open the XAMPP Control Panel and click the "Config" button under Apache.
- Select "php.ini" to open the PHP configuration file.
- In the php.ini file, you can adjust various settings such as memory_limit, upload_max_filesize, and others as needed.
- Save the changes and restart Apache by clicking "Stop" and then "Start" again.
